Cleaning beer lines

After surfing through a few American websites it seems that the Americans, and Europeans for that matter recommend cleaning their beer lines between 2 – 4 weeks why then do the British insist they clean every week.

Are we more conscientious over here or are they just trying to sell more cleaning fluid.

  1. I notice that on my extra cold guiness when i wash out that it stays green longer than the ordinary guiness and the same with my john smiths extra cold why is this. I sell quite a lot of both.

Interesting question there seem to be a few experts around today perhaps they could give a more profound answer. But I think it is down to the way the beer is kept over there. They use kegerators (where the container itself is stored in a fridge at 3 or 4 degrees) and "chilled cellars" where we have "cool cellars" 13 degrees. bio-film or yeast will grow quicker in a warmer temp (e.g.bread rising and all that). In other words they take the temp down to dispense temp straight away whereas we do it in three stages. This is just a guess, but I have found yeast to grow very quickly in a warm cellar e.g. under the bar in a restaurant etc. than in a chilled cellar. 🙂

All Tetleys equipment is owned by Carlsberg

If some one sells you one it doesn’t belong to them. If you sell Tetley bitter get in touch with your supplier they will arrange to have it installed for you. Or ask at this site.
