Why is it important to turn off gas supply before changing a keg?

It’s good practice to turn off the gas in that it will help prevent blow back from the coupler, if it is accidentally turned to the on position during the keg changing process. In other words it can save you getting beer blown on your clothes. (especially useful with a sankey coupler)
